In the vein of The Time Traveler's Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times bestselling author V。 E。 Schwab's genre-defying tour de force。

A Life No One Will Remember。 A Story You Will Never Forget。

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever—and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets。

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world。

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name。

This review is for the audiobook version of “The Invisible Life of Addie Larue” by V。E Schwab, narrated by Julia Whelan, published by Macmillan Audio。 Audio: 4 stars Julia Whelan is a well-seasoned audiobook narrator, and has been the voice behind the audiobooks for “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, “Educated” and “The Wife Between Us”, to name a few。 Her narration is spot on with this novel, and her deep, melodic voice brings the reader along for the ride without overpowering the stor This review is for the audiobook version of “The Invisible Life of Addie Larue” by V。E Schwab, narrated by Julia Whelan, published by Macmillan Audio。 Audio: 4 stars Julia Whelan is a well-seasoned audiobook narrator, and has been the voice behind the audiobooks for “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, “Educated” and “The Wife Between Us”, to name a few。 Her narration is spot on with this novel, and her deep, melodic voice brings the reader along for the ride without overpowering the story itself。 Story: 4 stars “Don’t pray to the gods that answer after dark”。 These are the words of advice Adeline LaRue does not heed, and, in haste to escape her arranged marriage, she makes a deal with the darkness。 Three hundred years go by, slowly, and Addie has watched everyone she once loved meet her, again and again, and forget her, over and over。 But when she comes across Henry, she begins to understand that he is different from the rest; he seems to be the only one who can remember her from one day to the next。 As Henry and Addie’s relationship grows, the “darkness” is always in the background, desperate to claim what is now rightfully his。 Both Henry and Addie are desperate to save the love neither thought they’d ever have, putting everything on the line, including their souls。Fans of “The Time Traveler's Wife” will adore “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” by V。E Schwab。 A romantic, time traveling fantasy, “Invisible Life” warns of the consequences of making deals with the Devil himself。 Addie is a character that I instantly rooted for。 Told mostly from her perspective, the novel details Addie’s struggles as she searches to belong through three centuries, forever being unrecognized。 Henry also takes a chapter here and there, and we are introduced to Henry’s own deal, and his battle with depression that leads him to making the ultimate compromise。 “Invisible Life” is a beautiful love story, but it is so much more than that。 There are so many deeper, emotional meanings to the plot, and combined with the grim “Devil” character, described as “the darkness”, there is something for everyone。 The story takes place in Addie’s home country of France, as well as New York City and New Orleans, Louisiana and Schwab provides us with the descriptive settings necessary for the perfect escape。 The novel ends in a bittersweet way, but overall I was satisfied with the outcome。 I wanted more of Addie (and of course more of Henry), and Schwab has enough left over to create a series of books if she wishes to, but “The Invisible Life” leaves an indelible mark either way。 。。。more

I have no idea why this books is so hyped。 I made myself finish the book even though I was pretty disengaged 25% of the way but a lot of people said that the last 50% gets better。 It didn't。 Character development was lazy, and the plot felt regurgitated (which was intended, I know, but at some point you just wanna scream)。 It was almost like the author had nothing to write about。 Addie's character went through almost no changes throughout the book。 She lived through such interesting periods in h I have no idea why this books is so hyped。 I made myself finish the book even though I was pretty disengaged 25% of the way but a lot of people said that the last 50% gets better。 It didn't。 Character development was lazy, and the plot felt regurgitated (which was intended, I know, but at some point you just wanna scream)。 It was almost like the author had nothing to write about。 Addie's character went through almost no changes throughout the book。 She lived through such interesting periods in history and all we heard about was bonbons。 I also expected to read more about art history。 Henry was a cry baby。 But Luc。 The darkness or the devil is sad。 How he/it goes on to choose its deals make no sense to me。 Actually, Luc's "character" is the least explicable in this entire book。 Won't recommend to anyone。 。。。more

El finl es el más perfecto, porque todos la recuerdan y saben que su historia abarca guerras, amores fallidos, revoluciones, perdidas y continentes

Masterpiece。

Those last couple chapters really hit me。💛😭 Some of it was predictable but in the best way。 And I love what V。E。 Schwab has to say about making your mark on the world and the impact we have on people's lives。 Now currently in a book coma。 💛 Those last couple chapters really hit me。💛😭 Some of it was predictable but in the best way。 And I love what V。E。 Schwab has to say about making your mark on the world and the impact we have on people's lives。 Now currently in a book coma。 💛 。。。more

I liked it! The story was enjoyable and the concept was thought-provoking and unique。 V。E。 Schwab does a good job in that department。The only issue I had was the same issue I had with some of her other books: it just felt a little too long。 A lot of scenes felt either too drawn out or entirely unnecessary。 That may just be my personal preference, but I do wish the story had moved along a little more quickly。

Ellie Price

Slow build but interesting story。

Sarah Sailer

I haven’t felt like this about a book since A Little Life。 I’m not ok。

This was a pretty entertaining read but I was kind of disappointed with the the ending。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Creo que más allá de la historia, lo increíble y maravilloso de este libro (y el porqué tanta gente lo ama) es lo mucho que te hace pensar, cuestionarte y reflexionar sobre cómo llevas tu vida y como utilizas tu tiempo。En definitiva recordaré a Addie, a Henry e incluso a Luc, este libro te enseña que todo tiene un sacrificio, que para obtener algo tendrás que renunciar a otra cosa, pero que esto no significa que estes perdiendo o rindiéndote。- Las palabras deben ser bien implementadas y así podr Creo que más allá de la historia, lo increíble y maravilloso de este libro (y el porqué tanta gente lo ama) es lo mucho que te hace pensar, cuestionarte y reflexionar sobre cómo llevas tu vida y como utilizas tu tiempo。En definitiva recordaré a Addie, a Henry e incluso a Luc, este libro te enseña que todo tiene un sacrificio, que para obtener algo tendrás que renunciar a otra cosa, pero que esto no significa que estes perdiendo o rindiéndote。- Las palabras deben ser bien implementadas y así podrás usarlas a tu favor, a Addie le tomó 300 años entender esto, pero ganó。(Debo decir que el libro tenía mínimo unas 100 páginas de relleno, pero al finalizarlo te das cuenta de que esto era totalmente necesario, aunque llegaba a aburrir en cierto punto) 。。。more

This book was absolutely mesmerizing。 I could not put this read down, especially toward the end。 The author does a marvelous job at showcasing their writing style, every sentence drawing you in, and none feeling like fluff。 As you read this book, an entire world, a whole village, several city corners, and more will carefully form in your mind, giving every single word a home。 This book was made with enough creativity to inspire poets, musicians, and all artists for a lifetime。

What's important: to be remembered or to be enough? Lovely sweeping novel with an obvious (and somewhat disappointing) ending。 What's important: to be remembered or to be enough? Lovely sweeping novel with an obvious (and somewhat disappointing) ending。 。。。more

I loved this beautifully written story about a dreamer and her love for art, or more the stories that art tells。 This book trapped my soul from the very beginning with it's beautiful and magical story。  It's about our needs, companionship, art in various forms and immortality。 We are not meant to be alone。 We need people in our lives that we can laugh with, discuss with, cry with, bear our souls to or just be ourselves with。 It was both wonderful and painful seeing the world through Addies eyes。 I loved this beautifully written story about a dreamer and her love for art, or more the stories that art tells。 This book trapped my soul from the very beginning with it's beautiful and magical story。  It's about our needs, companionship, art in various forms and immortality。 We are not meant to be alone。 We need people in our lives that we can laugh with, discuss with, cry with, bear our souls to or just be ourselves with。 It was both wonderful and painful seeing the world through Addies eyes。 Even though she is alone and no one ever remembers her, she never gives up and she never loses her desire to live。 I admire that。 I loved the french setting and the feeling I got reading this story。 It kinda snuck into my heart。 Schwab's writing is beautiful, aluring and comforting。 Oh and that ending just made me love this story even more。 It wasn't what I was expecting but it was the kind of suprise that I love。 Addie LaRue is a book full of magic that you'll never forget。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book but not as much as I had hoped。 I really liked the premise, the magic, and most of the characters。 Unfortunately, I found the plot to be pretty repetitive and the main character lacking any real personality outside of her curse。

Joanna Smy

I really enjoyed this book。 The way she toggled between past and present and live the story was excellent。 The ending felt fitting and hopeful。 I loved the way art and history intertwined with fiction。 The writing was also melodic。 Would definitely recommend。

The writing was excellent, but the book is SLOW。 The main character is completely miserable and it’s not a fun read at all。

It holds promise。Henry is a character that feels too much。 I absolutely loved him, felt sad for him, wanted to gift him the world if I could。 I loved his POV's and how he was the one to remember Addie。 I guessed the reason and I was proven right。Luc。。。ah my villainous baby。 I tend to love villains and I did again。 I loved his wit, his anger, his smirk his everything。 I even believed him, but darkness stays the same。 It doesn't change。 And what he did to Addie can't be undone。 She asked for it herself, then blamed him。 They are both in the wrong。 But who said to ever trust the devil?Henry and Addie I loved, but Luc and Addie I almost fainted at their moments。 I am sorry but yeah。 I don't agree with what he did, of course not。 But I love his villainous mind。 。。。more

meh。。。 The book is about 2/3 longer than it should have been for what it is。At about half way through I got a big problem with the book - a voice at the back of my head told me - I still want to know how it ends, but I don't want to read this book any more。And so I had to painfully hurtle through the second part to the end。 The Luc bits were repetitive and mostly uninteresting - at some point I got very concerned that we shall see every birthday in a form of a chapter。 When I learned of Henry's meh。。。 The book is about 2/3 longer than it should have been for what it is。At about half way through I got a big problem with the book - a voice at the back of my head told me - I still want to know how it ends, but I don't want to read this book any more。And so I had to painfully hurtle through the second part to the end。 The Luc bits were repetitive and mostly uninteresting - at some point I got very concerned that we shall see every birthday in a form of a chapter。 When I learned of Henry's story, I forsaw how the book ends and unsurprisingly it ended exactly that way。The book is really trying to be romantic and engaging but I don't think it is。 All parties got themselves into situation where they do not really have a choice - so it's like freeride on rails。I don't think the book was a good use of my time but I see that some may find it interesting。 。。。more
